In other words, "set as default" allows the site itself to be the mail client on the system via loading in Opera. ![]() When you do that, mailto links outside of Opera will load up in Opera and once they load up in Opera, they will then be passed to the website. When you do this, Opera should pop up Default Programs in Windows where you can then set Opera as the default mail client for the system. However, if you click on the 3 dots next to the site in there, you can choose to set it as the default mail client. If you approve this, the site will show up when you goto the URL opera://settings/handlers. ![]() However, a site can ask to be the default mailto client for links inside Opera. ![]() Clicking on a mailto link in Opera will load the default mail client on the system.
